No Harsh or Inhumane Treatment - Law

  • The Constitution states that no person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading punishment or other treat-ment.
  • The Constitution states that, except with his own consent, no person shall be subjected to the search of his person or his property or the entry by others on his premises.
  • The law carries penalties of up to life imprisonment for rape.

This means that:

  • No worker should be subject to or threatened with physical, sexual or verbal abuse.
  • Employers should not use any kind of harassment, bullying or intimidation.
  • Any fines used by the management must be legal and fair.
  • The workers should understand the system of fines.
  • Any fines should be clearly shown on workers' payslips.
  • Managers must not use any humiliating punishments.
