Risk Assessment

As pesticides are poisons, capable of killing insects, plants of other pests, they may pose a variety of risks to people. The risk is the potential of those hazards to be released and the possible severity of that release. Risk = Likelihood X Severity.

All pesticides are tested extensively to determine what are the hazards of each pesticide, and the likelihod of risk caused by exposure. If there are risks, controls are established to minimise those risks.

Risk Assessment.

Increasingly people in supply chains are expected to carry out risk assessments to determine priorities for action. Any risk assessment of pesticides would try to determine where ill effects are most likely to occur. The most likely occurences would be of nervous disorders caused by OPs or carbamates. This leads to requiring helath surveillance monitoring of those at regular risk.

Step 1 Classification and Labelling Hazards classification Colour code,Pictograms etc

Step 2 Asorption and effects, Acute and chronic Routes of entry

Step 3 Regulation and control pesticides Code of conduct

Step 4 Protection measures, Health Surveilance, transportation, storage distribution

Step 5 Disposal..
