WHO WE ARE Director & Learning Advisor Nancy Thompson, MA (Env Ed), Cert Ed, AMIEMA Nancy Thompson, Director and Training Advisor for EPAW, spent 15 years working on environmental conservation initiatives before entering the teaching profession. She was involved in project work with Wildlife Trusts, Local Authorities and as a Country Park Ranger. Her work included managing diverse projects ranging from research to responsibilty for site rescue teams. Nancy is an active Lancashire Wildlife Trust volunteer, local Field Club member and guided walk leader, she has made several radio broadcasts and written articles for various wildlife journals. In addition to teaching environmental sciences & Environmental Management she has developed both courses and materials for Lancaster University, Workers Education Association, and several F & HE Colleges in the North West. She was a member of the Management Charter Initiative working group that developed the national vocational Environmental Management Standards. Nancy was Environmental Projects Officer for Blackburn College responsible for developing their first draft EMS, and moderator of a 2 year Europe wide environmental training development project. She is a qualified vocational training assessor and verifier. Nancy is an Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and has extensive experience in training people to implement environmental management systems both from an educational perspective and practical application as a consultant with Groundwork Trust BEA Blackburn. She authored the UfI Learn Direct programme 'Environmental Management Toolkit’ to enable businesses to introduce an EMS. and has reviewed environmental publications for Gee Publishing and the Engineering Employers Federation. For her Masters degree in Environmental Education, Nottingham Trent University [1999-2001], Nancy used the development process and trials of the epaw Environmental Practitioner Programme as her action research to discover 'What educational processes enable employees to contribute to improved environmental and sustainable development practices in the workplace?' |
