Four of the first candidates for the Health & Safety qualifcations were presented special Awards at the Royal Show with Judith Donovan, HSE 'Champion for farming'. Over 900 candidates, in the first year, have achieved these level 3 & 2 qualifications. We are providing Online Learning Materials as our contribution to reducing the appalling rate of fatalities in UK farming.

Work & Pensions Committee of MPs says that t here is 'widespread concern that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is inadequately funded,' undermining its ability to carry out its work, MPs have warned ministers. The Commons Work and Pensions Committee report called for more 'front line' health and safety inspectors, more frequent site visits, bigger fines and more prosecutions, all measures running counter to HSE's practice over recent years.

European Parliament sets targets to reduce accidents by 25% in report that "Considers that tailored vocational training and retraining in the field of health and safety at work must be offered to employees and health and safety representatives with specific attention paid to sub-contracting, temporary work, part-time work, women, and migrant workers; considers that national and EU funds must continue to be used in this respect" (para 27). In Agriculture & Horticulture: The Quality and Curriculum Authority (QCA) approved the VRQs Health and Safety in Agricutlure and Horticulture:
Autonomous workers (Level 3 Controlling H&S Risks in Agric/Hortic) and Supervised workers (2 H&S Agric/Hortic) from Land Based Sector Awarding Bodies, LANTRA and NPTC.
