Programme promoting a safer culture

It is estimated that 70% of all workplace accidents could be prevented if proper safety control measures were put in place. Such good practice standards of are part of a farm's positive safety culture, that comes from the top and flows throughout the organisation.

Don’t learn safety by accident! Accidents hurt and safety does not. It is much better to know what to look out for, what precautions need to be taken and how to improve the situation. The duty of care for this lies primarily with the farm owner. They should make it clear, through a safety policy, what systems are in place to protect and who is responsible for maintaining them.

We are going to use the Learning Outcomes (LOs) of the level 2 H&S qualification to demonstrate learning about the above health and systems. By completing a series of tasks based on the LOs, you should be able to answer key questions that demonstrate learning requirements.

You are going to carry out a series of on & off line tasks in the following order (each weighted 2 hrs)

1 Explain effects of accidents 5 Explain consequences
6 Major sources of accidents 7 Measures to Control
2 Explain their role 8 Competence & jobs
4 Explain effect on others 9 Check Measures
3 Co-operate with others 10 Children
